Lecture and seminar 9

Today's lecture was about 'Information system crimes, security and controls', it was a good lecture and extremely interesting. Haider also informed us about the blog for week 10 and stated that we must do it over the period of the easter holidays. In today's seminar, we just worked on getting our assignment in and finishing off our blog and making it available for Susie to have a look at. Everything has now been submitted and the group worked together to get it done. It was an ease of mind when we had our presentation done a week in advance and we could focus on other things such as the blog. Now it's time for the holidays, where I will focus on the second half of the coursework which is the report element. My aim is to have majority of it done before the end of the holidays and ready to submit.

Lecture and seminar 8

Today's lecture was about 'Relational databases and cloud computing', Haider showed us a short clip about how important databases are and that Access 2010 is better than excel when you need to analyze data. We learnt a lot about organizing data, creating tables in data sheet view and the different infrastructure trends. Overall, this was an interesting lecture. In our seminar, we were put into different classes where we did some work on access 2010, it was really interesting and I gained some extra knowledge on how to use this system as I have never done any work on it before. This week our group has completely finished the recording task and everything has been edited and it looks absolutely lovely! I am really glad to have worked with my peers because everyone has contributed something into this presentation and it is evident a lot of hard work has gone into making the final product.

Lecture and Seminar 7

Today's lecture was about 'Enhancing business intelligence using ISs' we learnt about the big demand of business intelligence and how it is an absolute essential component to any organisation, we further explored the advantages of the database approach, we also discussed the role of business analytics and the architecture of a decision support system (DSS) and and expert system. I feel as though I have learnt some new knowledge today which I can utilise with specific regards to my courswork. During seminar, we did some work on excel and pivot tables, I learnt how to use pivot tables effectively and its a great way to present information in a report format. We also did a mock rehearsal of reciting our part for the recording of the video for the coursework tomorrow, this went quite well. I am quite impressed with our groups work ethic as everyone contributes an equal amount and we all get on quite well, which is absolutely ideal as I have had my fair share of bad experiences...

Lecture and Seminar 6

Today's lecture was about organisational effectiveness using enterprise,  where we learnt about the core business process, supply chain, value chain and the enterprise system approach; it was a useful lecture and I will definitely be applying the knowledge learnt today towards my group coursework task. Furthermore to this, we were told about an additional power point to add to our group work task, this was a bit of a pain considering we had already conducted a few group meetings and started our work, however we will now try our best and incorporate a power point into our work. Essentially, it would have been ideal if we were told about this powerpooint from the get go of lecture 1, same way we were informed about our coursework in such depth. In our seminar lessons, we did some excel work using the 'VLOOKUP' and 'IF' formula, this was quite a straightforward task and I feel I have become more confident using these functions over the period of the last few seminar s...

Lecture and seminar 5

In the beginning of today's lecture we continued with the presentation from last week and for the second half of the lecture, Thor Ingvarsson came in as a guest speaker and spoke to us all about managers, leaders and followers. During this lecture we learnt about theories x and theories y and how they both can self-fulfilling and we also received a deeper insight into various trait theories. This has probably got to be one of the best guest speakers we have had on this module, his lecture was absolutely hilarious yet informative at the same time. I really enjoyed the visual representations through the use of youtube videos, it was good.  In the Seminar, we explored our coursework case study in greater depth and as a class discussed the possible challenges that 'Bizzie body' was facing and how the company could overcome them. During this time, I took the initiative to plan a group meeting for next Wednesday in order to prepare for the coursework and how we will perform it.
